ESSAY: DO YOU THINK SOCIAL MEDIA IS GOOD FOR TEENS?

Social media is an internet-based form of communication. Social media platforms allow users to have conversations, share information and create web content. There are a lot of people using social media including teens. Social media platforms popular among young people include  Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat and TikTok.

I think social media is good for teens if they use it normally and wisely. Teens can use social media for doing homework, giving opinion, sharing information, get in touch with relatives, like and comment people’s posting,  uploading photo and stories in instagram and so many more!

But there are two side effects about this social media. It’s the benefits and the risks. The benefits of social media are teens can have fun such as making friends and maintaining friendship and sharing interests. Also social media brings us creativity and self-improvement. Example teens can sharing educational contents, developing their talent and learning something new. Social media can help people too with sharing some motivation contents to people who have mental health issues.

The risks of social media are uploading inappropriate content, like embarrassing or provocative photos or videos of themselves or others, sharing personal information with strangers for example, phone numbers, date of birth or location, cyberbullying. But it also effect to our health if we addict to social media it’s possible teens to spend a whole night using social media therefore teens will get sick and no time to sleep.

The accident of Airasia flight 8501

The accident of Airasia Flight 8501
The QZ8501 AirAsia plane crash was one of the terrible accidents happened in 2014.
The maintenance crew noticed that the plane suffered some engine troubles. The problems occured 23 times in 2014 and the crew, of course, tried to fix the systems. In fact, on the day of the accident the plane did not have permission to fly from Surabaya to Singapore. It was actually allowed to fly on four other days of the week.
On Sunday, 28 December 2014, the plane took off from Surabaya at 05.35. At 06.01 the pilot felt something wrong with the movement of the aircraft’s rudder. At 06.12 the pilot contacted the air traffic control to request permission to climb to 38,000 feet from 32,000 feet to avoid big storm clouds. The plane had already climbed before the permission was granted two minutes after the request. At 06.15 the trouble began again, when someone inside the cockpit attempted to reset the computer system again, this time by pulling out and then reinserting circuit breakers. At 06.20 the plane disappeared from radar screens and it did not issue any signal. The plane fell down in strait Karimata.
The victims were 155 passengers, including 17 children and one infant and 7 crews, which were made up of 2 pilots, 4 flight attendants and 1 engineer.
On 31 December 2014, the third day of the search, the first debris and bodies from the crash were discovered. Officials later reported sighting five large pieces of wreckage on the sea floor. Items recovered from the sea surface included a life jacket, children’s shoes, luggage, an emergency exit door and inflatable slide. Soon after that, the main body of the plane was also located and eventually retrieved.
As a civilian aircraft, the plane carried two ‘black boxes’: the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder. Each weighing about 7 kg and protected by steel casing designed to resist water pressure in depths up to 20,000 feet. Flight recorders are designed to survive a crash and being submerged in water. They contain underwater locator beacons which meit so-called ‘pings’ for at least 30 days.
On 12 January 2015, the flight data recorder was recovered and on 13 January 2015 the flight’s cockpit recorder was found. Komite Nasional Keselamatan Transportasi (KNKT) needed one year to analyze the data and finally in December 2015 it announced publicly that this plane accident was not caused by the bad weather but the plane systems which were missed to be fixed due to human errors.

The Ant and The Dove

On a hot day of summer, an ant was searching for some water. After walking around for some time, she came near the river. To drink the water, she climbed up on a small rock. While trying to drink a water, she slipped and fell into the river.

There was a dove sitting on a branch of a tree who saw an ant falling into the river. The dove quickly plucked a leaf and dropped it into the river near the struggling ant. The ant moved towards the leaf and climbed up onto it. Soon, the leaf drifted to dry ground, and the ant jumped out. She looked up to the tree and thanked the dove.

Later, the same day, a bird catcher nearby was about to throw his net over the dove hoping to trap it. An ant saw him and guessed what he was about to do. The dove was resting and he had no idea about the bird catcher. An ant quickly bit him on the foot. Feeling the pain, the bird catcher dropped his net and let out a light scream. The dove noticed it and quickly flew away.

Moral:  If you do good, good will come to you.  One good turn deserves another.

Martin Luther King Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American Baptist minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the cvil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. Born in Atlanta, King is best known for advancing civil rights through nonviolence and civil disobdience, inspired by his Christian beliefs and the nonviolent activism of Mahatma Gandhi.

King led the 1955 Montgomery bus boycott and in 1957 became the first president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). With the SCLC, he led an unsuccessful 1962 struggle against segregation in Albany, Georgia and helped organize the nonviolent 1963 protests in Birmingham, Alabama. He helped organize the 1963 March on Washington, where he delivered his famous "I have a dream" speech.

On October 14, 1964, King won the Nobel Peace Prize for combating racial inequality through nonviolence resistant. In 1965, he helped organize the Selma to Montgomery marches The following year, he and the SCLC took the movement north to Chicago to work on segregated housing. In his final years, he expanded his focus to include opposition towards poverty and the Vietnam war. He alienated many of his liberal allies with a 1967 speech titled "beyond Vietnam". J. Edgar. Hoover considered him a radical and made him an object of the FBI's COINTELPRO from 1963 on. FBI agents investigated him for possible communist ties, recorded his extramarital liaisons and reported on them to government officials, and on one occasion mailed King a threatening anymous letter which he interpreted as an attempt to make him commit suicide.

In 1968, King was planning a national occupation of Washington, D.C., to be called the Poor people's campaign, when he was assasinated on April 4 in Memphis, Tennessee His death was followed by riots in many U.S cities. Allegations that James earl Ray, the man convicted of killing King, had been framed or acted in concert with government agents persisted for decades after the shooting. Sentenced to 99 years in prison for King's murder, effectively a life sentence as Ray was 41 at the time of conviction, Ray served 29 years of his sentence and died from hepatitis in 1998 while in prison.

King was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. Martin Luther King Jr. Day was established as a holiday in numerous cities and states beginning in 1971; the holiday was enacted at the federal level by legislation signed by President Ronald Reagan in 1986. Hundreds of streets in the U.S. have been renamed in his honor, and a county in Washington State was rededicated for him. The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., was dedicated in 2011.

Cow

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Subclass: Theria
Infraclass: Eutheria
Order: Artiodactyla
Family: Bovidae
Subfamily: Bovinae
Genus: Bos
Species: B. taurus

Cows like to sleep close to their families, and sleeping arrangements are determined by individuals’ rank in the social hierarchy.

Like humans, cows (cattle) form close friendships and choose to spend much of their time with 2-4 preferred individuals. They also hold grudges for years and may dislike particular individuals.

Cows display emotions and have been shown to produce more milk when they are treated better and as individuals.

Cattle get excited when they solve problems. When faced with a challenge of finding out how to open a door to reach food, their heartbeat went up, their brainwaves showed excitement, and some even jumped into the air.

Cows show their excitement when let out into a field after long periods confined indoors.

Cattle like to sleep close to their families, and sleeping arrangements are determined by individuals’ rank in the social hierarchy.

Cows are devotional mothers and are known to walk for miles to find their calves.

Cattle are extremely curious and inquisitive animals which will investigate everything.
Like many other grazing animals cattle have one stomach which is divided into four compartments or chambers: the rumen, reticulum, omasum and abomasum. This allows them to digest grain and grasses most effectively.

Cattle have almost 360° panoramic vision. This helps them to see predators coming from any direction.

Cattle have an excellent sense of smell. They can detect odours up to five miles away. They can also hear both low and high frequency sounds beyond human capability.
The cow is a protected animal in Hinduism, and Hindus do not eat beef. Cows are honoured at least once a year, on Gopastami. On this day cows are washed and decorated in temples.

Describing a Place

Tanah Lot

Tanah Lot is one of the tourist attractions in Bali. It is a popular tourist and cultural icon of photograpy. Tanah lot is located 20 km away from Denpasar. We can go there by car or motorcycle. On the way to Tanah Lot, we can find a lot of hotels and hostels.

The Tanah Lot temple sits on a large rock. It is unique because  you can only visit the temple during the low tide. When the high tide comes, the temple will be under water. Every 5 o'clock in the afternoon, Tanah Lot becomes very crowded, because some Hindu people worship Dewa Baruna in the temple.

Most tourists who visit Tanah Lot want to enjoy the beautiful sunset and take pictures of it. The sun usually sets  at around 6 o'clock. During that moment the sky automatically turns into orange colour. Don't miss this wonderful scenery!

We can also enjoy the beach in Tanah Lot. It is very beautiful, but there are a lot of rocks, so when we visit the beach we must walk carefully. The beach looks more beautiful in the afternoon than at night, especially on a sunny day because the water looks blue and clear. How instagrammable!

We don't need to worry when we want to buy some food or drink, because there are a lot of traders there. The traders also sell some nice souvenirs, such as statues, wood crafts, balinese sarongs, and key holders. We can buy them for our friends and relatives.
